Florescence is the third and final track off of Bloom. 

While creating the Bloom EP, I wanted a song that made myself and the listeners feel empowered but also lend the feeling that it's OK to leave the past in the past and be welcomed in the present. As the name suggests, Florescence is the process of flowering. Life is a sine wave filled with peaks and troughs. This feeling of life and prosperity may not last forever, but we enjoy the feeling of warmth when we can.  Much like The Shadow, this is *also* beginning of our journey.

Bells ring out from the Townmaster's Hall, calling villagers to fire service as smoke plumes up and fire sparked with tinges of neon colors arise from the remains of the Sleeping Giant. The two remaining red-cloaked patrons stand off to the side attempting to comforting Grista, who stares silent daggers at anyone in the party who'd dare look over.
As the sounds shouting voices and sloshing buckets near where you stand--recovering and reflecting--more sparks shoot off from the ruins like fireworks as the Nothic's tome is engulfed in the conflagration, for a moment a hazy, dark cloud with darts off the blaze into the sky with a sound like a dying breath, intermingling with the hazy red and black aurora of the Axebitter's cauldron.

Helloooo hellooo! For those who don’t know me, I’m Lyrah :) I’m a writer/producer/singer based in LA.

I originally grew up in Pennsylvania, in a sleepy, small town that kinda forced you to find your own source of entertainment (hello music). I played piano since I was 3 and was singing at everything from church to skate park shows. Fast forward to college, when I started writing toplines for EDM, toured with a band as their keyboardist, and started to teach myself how to produce. And now today I love making my own music that feels like someone’s personal soundtrack in a sad but dancey world.


It’s hard to write about this song, because the song was intentionally written to never state the very thing it’s about — cancer.

But to truly know the song, you need to know the backstory.

A few months ago, my brother started experiencing some health issues. His doctors weren’t concerned and even denied requests for booking any additional testing. My mom got on the phone with his doctor and begged, yet nothing changed. My brother and parents independently secured an appointment.

We went from a doctor refusing to schedule any testing to a stage 4 cancer diagnosis.

From shows like “Breaking Bad” you imagine that someone sits you down and creates a space for you while you process difficult news. But instead, you get results uploaded to your chart for you to interpret on your own. A few days later a doctor will call to say “I’m so sorry” and they’ll bill that 5 minute phone call to your insurance. And then you’ll pay your $20 co-pay for a call you’ll never forget.

The healthcare system often feels so criminal. In response to this, my mom joked that we should just start stealing things. When we went to CVS later that day, I may or may not have stolen a pack of peanut m&ms to make her happy.

That night I went to my brother’s apartment. And while he played guitar, I told him about the peanut m&m adrenaline rush of the day. I joked to his girl friend (now wife!) that we should just write about stealing from CVS but then that’s exactly what we did. The chorus was the first thing we wrote and verse 2 flowed out fast behind it:

Writing this song made us laugh. It felt so cheeky and comical. It was exactly what we needed. I knew we had something good just listening to it on guitar, even before we tracked it out in ableton. I then drove back to LA and worked on the production with Nick Booth. We sped it up from 110BPM to 145BPM and the song came to life in a whole new way. 13 versions later and it's exactly what we want. This song means so much that I wouldn't give it anything less <3

Given the background of this song, I want to give 100% of the ETH from this drop to cancer research. I’m currently finding the best people and projects to fund directly.

I met DEEGAN my first week living in Los Angeles. I was at a show watching a friend perform when I got a tap on the shoulder - I thought I was going to run into one of my other friends who recently moved cross country with me but instead I was greeted by a total stranger. He introduced himself and I immediately recognized him after having worked with his cousin months prior.

The next day I did a deep dive on his catalog and invited him over to my place for a session. I remember being blown away by the weird noises he could produce with just his voice alone. I realized he was the type of creative that wouldn't try to structure out the perfect song - he would let me do whatever I wanted to do. And creatively that's exactly what I needed. 

Over the years DEEGAN and I have worked on so many records together. From our early days making bleeps and bloops on my computer to his 2 features on Overstimulated, to the writing camp I put together in Malibu, DEEGAN has consistently been one of my favorite people to work with - not only for his musical abilities - but for his undeniable personality that lights up every room he's in. 

Bittersweet is a record that I started on last summer and sent to DEEGAN at the end of last year. When I was looking for a song to drop on Sound, I came across this topline but the production felt outdated. I ended up manically sitting with it for 72 hours and this is the result that came out. It's a preview of my new direction sonically.

This song is about the mixed emotions one feels after a breakup: The happiness of not having to deal with their toxic behavior anymore, and the sadness in losing all of the good parts about them.

The Initial idea for “No Landing” started with a grungy bass line made on an old vintage Memorymoog. This bass line sparked my creative energy, and I started to build out the track with drums, synths and continued expanding on that initial bass line. I arrived at a sound that seemed simple, but still sounded crisp and full-toned. The track was pure, so I didn’t feel it needed to be overcomplicated and oversaturated with wasteful production. To the ear, the elements of “No Landing” are stripped back, which helps encapsulate the energy I wanted the song to exude. 

This single started with production, and I eased into the lyrics, letting the smooth gliding beat serve as the track’s core concept–never forcing a single word. Ultimately, this track has a sonic, unhurried sound that makes listeners feel like they’re floating, never worrying about landing back on the ground.

(Madi) One evening this past fall of 2021, I was at odds; I was feeling particularly uninspired and exhausted by the music industry. I distinctly remember sitting out on my patio at an absurdly late hour; scrolling through my likes hoping that I could revive an old gem, and I rediscovered Rob’s music. We had made a song named “Alibi” together with our friend Pham a few years ago, but hadn’t talked since then. I spent most of the night listening, and so naturally, I reached out to him to see what he was up to...

We reconnected and formed an organic bond creating art and talking about our music industry trauma. We made over thirty songs within just a couple of weeks while simultaneously terrorizing each other in Minecraft and brainstorming the early ideas that became this project. Our friend Dan (aka elozi) had a demo named “GLOWSTONE” that we sampled to make “LIGHTS OFF''. The name felt right for our project and our partnership created a strong foundation that enabled us to start building our own world.

“LIGHTS OFF” is a song about the drastic highs-to-lows phenomena of life. It illustrates not only the pain but the embrace of change, particularly from an artist’s point of view, which we believe a lot of artists can relate with.

GLOWSTONE

I was born and raised on a farm in Candelo, Australia, about seven hours from Sydney. I’ve lived in the states for the past ten years making and releasing music whilst performing around the world. In 2017 I decided to take a break from the industry, since then I have grown as a producer, and my artistic style has changed. Being off the road gave me time to focus on creating again and I honed in on a new goal of learning to sing. Singing has completely changed the way I think about and create music, I am incredibly excited to share this new journey with you all! 
 
This new era begins with my first new single, “Sandman.” The song slowly came to life over a four-year period, adding all the elements bit by bit to finally create the full track using an array of vintage synths and a live drum kit. I was influenced by rock & roll music at this time so wanted to give the song a more aggressive edge, filled with a huge bass line and melodic leads to create the full experience! With the lyrical meaning of the song I prefer you to take away your own interpretation as that's truly what art is. But if I had to describe it in one word it would be unification!
 
Over the past few years, the industry landscape has changed drastically. Even so, no shift has been more compelling than the power of the NFT community and web3. Being new to the NFT community, this is something that I’m really excited about! There is no better time to enter the community than on the heels of new music, it feels like the perfect storm!

I've revisited this song a few times and each time was during very critical moments in my life. I first wrote the initial idea when I moved back to New York City after the initial wave of the pandemic. Then I continued to write lyrics and build out the song as I left New York and moved to Los Angeles earlier this year. This is probably one of the most personal tracks I've ever written. It's about being antsy and knowing that there's so much out there for you, but with every decision you make there's always more difficult decisions attached to it. This track is a part of my EP "TASTE"

This one couldn't have been nearly as special without my good friends Parker & Eldar. 



RUNNIN BACK TO YOU [03.27.21] #25

Music is a universal language--truly loved by all. Through creating this song, both Morgxn and I were able to find some peace during these tumultuous times.  

The origin story: The introduction actually began at a Halloween party hosted at Charli XCX's home. Fast forward to the pandemic, Morgxn sends me a very special vocal he had written in London just before the lockdown. The message and lyrics resonated so deeply that I had to create a song that truly represented how I felt.

Though the song was written before our society shutdown--it had more meaning during.  This song is about the idea of craving touch that feels euphoric and cathartic. After dealing with 2 years of physical separation from our loved ones, this song is a celebration of togetherness and our love for each other.

When I was in college I got ahold of The Chainsmokers’ managers’ e-mail address. They had just dropped a record called “Everybody Hates Me” and as a new producer on the scene I wanted to take a pass at remixing it. I figured the best case scenario would be The Chainsmokers noticing me and taking me on a world tour with them and the worst case would be no response. To my surprise, the stems were sitting in my inbox within the hour. For the first time in my life, I had a fully processed, industry-standard engineered vocal that I could do anything with. The possibilities were endless. 

I skipped class for a week and went back and forth on seven or eight different versions of the remix - and while I didn’t get the Chainsmokers to sign off on it, I did fall in love with a new process of making music. For the next few years I would wake up every morning, go to New Music Friday on Spotify, track down management e-mails on the artists’ Facebook “about” section and beg for stems. Over the years, I put out a bunch of remixes for various artists - but more importantly I slowly compiled high quality vocals that I could mess with in my spare time. To this day, that remains one of my preferred method of working on records with people; “Ball!” with Kevin George (which was my last sound drop) happened from him sending me an acapella and my imagination running with it.

At the time, I was paid for remixes with exposure - and I wouldn’t have had it any other way. People started listening to my music on Soundcloud for the first time and I started to meet my first music friends through that experience. A lot of them are still my friends today.

However, there are a slew of examples of remixes that came out that went on to perform better than the original song did. More times than not, the remixer is paid in either exposure (like me), or a one time buyout fee which is typically $250 or less for smaller artists. Most of the time, the remixers - who breathe new life into the record - see no upside in the event that the remix is a smash. These artists are also overlooked often and don’t get a chance to tell their musical stories.

The Glass House remixes is a 4 pack of my favorite reworks off my EP “Glass House”. Every remix came out incredible, and flipped my songs into a way I never saw coming.

The pack features artists who vary in Web3 experience - from vets like Clear Eyes and MSFT to newcomers like Veggi and Cudos, I’m stoked to present the first Daniel Allan Remix pack on Sound.

'crush' is another one of the many love songs I've written this year and one of my favorites so far. The song is inspired by my current fascination of hyperpop vocals and catchy vocal chop melodies. As someone who makes EDM most of the time, it's always a breath of fresh air to create something more simple (sometimes less is more when it comes to music production).

My creative process usually revolves around writing an instrumental and then looking for the right voice and lyrics to convey the feelings I experienced while producing.

Through this process I had the pleasure to work with many incredible singers and bands over the years, but never really got the chance to play around with vocal samples that much.

My goal with this song was to switch things up a bit, starting from a sample and building a full song around it instead.

I’m Glassface. I’ve been creating music my entire life. I’ve spent the past 10 years working as a music video / commercial director and visual artist, moonlighting as a producer & songwriter for other artists. In the past few years I’ve come to realize the importance of sharing my music with the world, putting my head down to finish some of the myriad of demos I have in the vault. Putting everything into the music. In the past 3 months, I’ve released 3 new songs with accompanying visuals. “There’s No Other One” is my 4th release this year, and is truly special to me. Oh, and I’m just getting started.

There’s No Other One is a mix of some of my favorite things. Produced by Matti Free and me, we brought together live guitar and drums, pitched toms, analog synths under a cutting vocal. Minimal 80’s-inspired pop rock leading into a crescendo of maximalist electronic production.

Nodding to favorite artists of mine including Daft Punk and Francis & The Lights - the song is an amalgamation of influences. It’s really important to me to make the music that I want to hear. Lyrically, it’s about a moment of clarity - that feeling when everything comes together and makes sense. A somber night drive of self-discovery. The electricity you feel after a life-affirming realization. Disguised as a love song, I’d say “There’s No Other One” is more of a self-love song. When I realized I was the only one who could accomplish my dreams, it empowered me, and I knew I was unstoppable. It’s about staying the course and letting that feeling be a North Star. I really believe in what I’m doing. This song is for anyone who has had that realization that they are that one.

This is a story about a broken love, two people who aren’t good for each other - but they’re addicted to the love. I think we’ve all experienced the feeling of not being able to stay away from someone or something even when we know it’s bad for us. That in essence is what this song is about.

My favourite line is “take me into red skies, yeah we blurry by the moonlight.” I am obsessed with fine art. To me that imagery feels like a Monet painting - the almost trippy feeling of being under someone's spell.  I love expressing feeling through colors and images. 

Hyped to have Kevin as a part of this song! His tone and his pen are insane - it's an absolute honour to have him on this one!

Always grateful for my producer, my day one, Carson. A true legend. He brought the magic with his incredible sound design, translating my simple ideas to a piece of art I'm so proud of.

It’s gone through many revisions (one that even dropped on LNRZ with Bloody White and Clear Eyes). The final version is releasing on DSPs on Jan 27th and it features Reo Cragun.
