I wrote "Bad Days" with tears in my eyes.  It's a pretty blunt song cause I didn't plan on sharing it with anyone at first.  But I changed my mind after showing it to a friend who silently listened, crying only several lines into the song.  

I feel like no one giving a shit about us is something we've all felt.  Especially living in a world of constant self comparison via social media.  So hopefully this can help someone out there feel a little less unseen.  

After making a voice memo recording on the stoop of my house in Nashville, I took the song to my friend Spencer Rabin who helped me bring it to life.  Matt Chancey played the guitars, and the incredible duo, Shaan Ramaprasad and Juliano Bitonti recorded the strings.  Ben Kessler later put his touch on it with the mix.

I wrote Ego in a writing session with Dan Henig and Linden Jay who both worked with me on Cherry Wine.  I think this is their first times being involved in an NFT so I'm stoked that I can help bring some fellow creators into the web 3.0 space with me on this journey. 

I hope that I'm going to extend my collector-base with this release and welcome more NFT collectors into my community.  I'm about to be doing lots of touring all over the place and so I'm hoping that I'll be able to connect with collectors in different cities around the world, that would be so cool.

“Joke” came to me after an unwanted encounter I recently had with my old Honor’s Chemistry teacher from high school (who I NEVER got along with). He often made passive aggressive and patronizing remarks about my passions because they were different from his. While working an odd job in May, I bumped into him, and thus came the passive aggressive remarks that he would so often make 10 years prior. He continued to insinuate that my career, work ethic, and overall presence was laughable. I played the bigger man in person, killing him with kindness, and when I got home I spazzed. But “Joke” became more than your corny “diss track to the teacher who never believed in me” type song. It became a work of art that encompassed an everlasting theme in my life. Being Yourself, and being proud of who you are. 

I realized that I have spent so much of my life here on earth wearing masks, trying to fulfill other people’s perceptions of me, only to burn out some days wondering why I’m this way… wondering who I am in general. Subconsciously, I have surrounded myself with so many people that are unapologetically themselves no matter the situation, and I’ve always admired that skill. A lot of those people have said that I exhibit that trait as well, but I’ve never felt that way about myself. Maybe I am mirroring their energy and I feel comfortable enough to shine in front of them because they showed me the way. This year, I started really listening to what THOSE people have said about me… really taking in why I am loved by my friends and why I am unique as a person. 

With “Joke” I wanted every aspect of myself to shine through the song’s production. I performed a sketch with funny voices during the intro of the track, I produced an 8-bit video game styled instrumental, I sampled my grandmother and mother, and I added an instrumental and tonal shift midway through the track. That being said, I love doing funny voices, I love video games, I love my family, and I love beat switches and moody contrast. So why not put all of those things in a song, regardless of what other people think? These are just some of the things in a long list of interests that make me: ME! And I plan on showing the rest of those special attributes throughout the rest of my career.

These are the words I want to say when I float away and leave my body behind. 

Time dissipates when I am dancing. My movement encapsulates the interconnectedness of memory, instinct, emotion, and truth. But when the sweat dries and the clocks start up again, my identity can become distorted and blurred. Regret, guilt, fear, and loss flood my mind, ripping me away from the love that colors my life.

This is disassociating for me; I am no longer in control of my body, words, or feelings and I am a shell with empty eyes. My mind hovers and every conversation is empty. My loved ones feel abandoned while we are sitting right across from one another. I wrote these lyrics while fighting a dissociative episode and I managed to come back to myself through making my experience tangible and real with words and sound.

This song is a reclamation of myself. When I’m ready to become real again, patient love is always there to welcome me back home.

Hi, I’m Kacy Hill. I’m from Phoenix, AZ, now based in Los Angeles. 

Back in 2014, I signed to G.O.O.D. Music and released my debut album, “Like A Woman” three years later.  While I’m thankful for the crash course in the inner workings of the industry my major label experience gave me, I ultimately wanted out (badly). After almost a year of quite literally following Kanye West around to try and get a meeting, I was finally dropped and have been releasing music independently since 2018.

With each of my subsequent album releases I have experimented more with production and the amount of freedom I give myself to make mistakes. In my second album “Is It Selfish If We Talk About Me Again”, I was able to dictate the sounds I heard in my head to collaborators, though rarely sitting down at the computer to dig into the engineering of those sounds. My most recent album, “Simple, Sweet, and Smiling”, was a window into engineering and producing my own music, partially fueled by lockdowns and the inability to actually collaborate in person. 

“If I Could Say” is the first song I’m putting out into the world that I’ve produced and written (and played saxophone on!) entirely on my own. I’m less focused on perfection these days and more interested in what feels most fun and fulfilling to me. I love making music and at this point in life, I pursue whatever will allow me to keep loving the process.

My name is felly.  I’m from Connecticut originally but stay out west in Los Angeles. I found a lane in the music scene a few years ago after years of putting out albums/mixtapes/projects on bandcamp, soundcloud- really whatever was available at the time.  We’re talking 5-6 years ago.  During the golden days of indie platforms I hit a chord in a scene I’m still trying to understand. It is wild to think about how things have evolved since.  

In the early days at school at USC in Los Angeles I helped to form a collective called 2273- named after the dorm room my friends and I would create in.  I kept putting out albums/mixtapes and eventually found myself on multiple nation-wide tours as a headline.  Just my friends and I, selling out large rooms all across the United States.

Fast forward a few years and I’m back living in Los Angeles, after making a pit stop in Brooklyn.  I signed to Sony who I dropped a couple projects with, and then most recently signed with 300 Entertainment.   Throughout this journey of creating the art that speaks true to me and my fans, I’ve met and connected with thousands of people across the US and shared this love for music, life, and we’ve all gotten closer to a feeling of oneness.  I’m filled with gratitude to be a creator and be able to play.  The shows are crazy and my team and I get more inspired to create timeless music by the day.  

Bad Radio is the first single off an invisible project I have that is entirely self-produced.  I say invisible because I’m not sure if it will ever come out, though it contains some of the most personal, true to me songs.  There is no reason for why it won’t come out, but the time for it hasn’t come yet.  I’m thankful to Sound XYZ for providing the first glimpse of this album that the public is able to see.  The songs on this EP are folky, dark, driving.  Very different from the sunny light hip hop sound that I’ve been known to come with.  

To sort of spoil it, the idea behind bad radio is a reflection of how I felt about love at the time.  It’s like, when you hear your favorite song on the radio, but the signal won’t quite come in.  Do you stay there in the static, waiting to hear whatever notes you can make out.  Or do you bash the fucking radio and drive off a cliff?  

The choice is yours.

When I started writing songs on bass in 2011 I felt like it gave me some kind of power, I really believe just holding a bass makes you emotionally stronger, you just feel instantly like a badass, the weight of the instrument that you’re holding feels substantial, the depth of the tone, the simplicity in the notes. There’s weirdly so much in that stuff. It’s an incredibly empowering instrument and a useful tool when finding your voice and getting in touch with your feelings. I found a new voice for myself when I started writing on bass, it was writing on bass that led to songs like this. I found it such an important way for me to express myself and lots of the heartache I was going through during my 20s. 

So many songs about bad choices, bad love, bad endings. ‘Try to forget’ feels like the Girl Talk (my 3rd album) era to me. There are still songs from the Girl Talk era coming out of me and still so many locked away in a chamber. It’s a time that was so formative for me, I was dealing with true independence, facing demons, facing bad guys, making bad choices. It felt a bit like Buffy season 5. I felt I was facing the world and was seeing it’s dark underbelly, realising I was an adult but still just a girl underneath. Music has always been the best way for me to deal with my life and this was never more true during this era. I love still being able to access that moment and feeling, it’s youthful, rebellious and angsty, it’s still in my stomach.

‘Try to forget it’ was written in a rehearsal room, there’s a ton of songs written in dingy dark rooms with dirty old amps and microphones, sounds of drums coming through the walls from other bands, cold damp rooms, bad lighting and bad air. I love spending time in these caves and playing for hours, sometimes nothing comes of it but every now and then you catch onto something you’re playing with and it becomes a song, that’s what happened with 'Try to forget it', it was just an afternoon in a rehearsal room jamming on the bass. 

‘Try to forget it’ is a punk love disaster song, written on bass about the car crash you know is coming. In love with someone that doesn’t have respect for you? in love with someone that has hurt you already? You try to forget it, try to make excuses for them and their actions despite knowing better. You make your own bed and you lie in it, you’re aware you should change the sheets, you should probably burn the bed and move house, but you’re not ready. Something is making you stay. Somehow you’re stuck. Only you can choose to walk away. Is it hedonism or self destruction that keeps you entangled? Is it your own sickness, some kind of addiction. I feel like for so many years I put myself in situations and relationships that I couldn’t seem to escape from. I knew they weren’t going to end well “I see you in my rear view mirror” I knew what was coming, yet I’m not sure I was aware I could change anything. So I stayed until the bitter end. This song was written in the middle of those feelings, the midst of my own struggle with personal boundaries, self respect. I clung to my bass as it made me feel powerful and I feel like it helped me release a lot of these thoughts, I just couldn’t quite hear myself. This song feels like a driving song to me, written about toxic love, a car crash you know is coming. You just keep trying and eventually you realise you can walk away, but until then, find a punk love disaster song that brings you some comfort.

Suki Waterhouse catalogs the most intimate, formative, and significant moments of her life through songs. You might recognize her name or her work as singer, songwriter, and actress, but you’ll really get to know the multi-faceted artist through her music. Growing up in London, Suki gravitated towards music’s magnetic pull and always saw the medium as a way of expressing creativity and telling stories. Suki has drawn comparisons to the Paisley Underground sound of Mazzy Star and to the 60s influenced girl group reimagining of bands like Stockholm’s The Concretes and Glasgow’s Camera Obscura.

On “Wild Side,” Suki wonders aloud if her love would return to an ex if they came calling, particularly because the excitement and lust of a prior relationship can be so enticing. Suki sings, “when you got that ex who’s crazy, they’re always running through your mind / remember when we had a wild side?”

No tears left to cry is the most recent recording from the Bad Radio album that just dropped a few weeks ago.  It's inspired by a lot of the older music I used to listen to and has a lot of organica within it.  The drums are recorded to tape as well as the acoustic guitars.  Originally I thought this record would be for something to come in the future but it helped bring life to the album as it needed something with driving drums. This song is about committing to being open, about allowing for the darkness *and* the light. 

But this recording, this release, this is about the power of friendship and collaboration. 

Without the prompt from my friend to “just write and record one quickly,” I wouldn’t have. Without Zac singing with me, Scott making the mix, and ATW designing the cover this song is just another session on my hard drive.
